Bert de Haan

In the summer of 1996, God called me to full-time ministry in a remarkable way. During a moment of prayer in a park in France, I intensely experienced the glory of God and heard His voice asking me to give up my successful career. A dream that same night confirmed this calling: I saw a man on the point of being executed – a symbol of a world without God. When he finally gave his life to Jesus, my heart was touched by God’s love for the lost. The message was clear: “Bert, I am calling you to stand in the gap and proclaim My Word.” In obedience I set everything aside and stepped in faith into a broken church. The road was hard, but God was faithful. For more than twenty years I was able to serve within Nehemia Ministries, until in 2015 I had to let go of everything and went through a deep period of mourning and brokenness. In that time I came to know God even more intensely as the Father who restores and gives new life. His words “I am your hopeful future” became a living reality to me. By His grace I have risen again. My heart is softer, my compassion deeper. In 2017, together with brothers, I founded the foundation Bread for the Hungry Ministries, which is active in Kenya, among other places. Out of my passion for the Word, Daily Bread Ministries came into being in 2019, to satisfy spiritual hunger with in-depth teaching. Together with my wife Nancy I want to keep living out my calling, carried by the words: “You renew my youth like the eagle’s.”
